Toronto’s Shelter System

25th March 2013

I decided to go to the “Update on Emergency Shelter Services” meeting at City Hall last Monday because the shelter system is something I am passionate about. I ended up interviewing a few people there, and wrote a story about it.

John Clarke, leader of Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, speaks to a council committee at a meeting on the shelter system on March 18, 2013.

If you are not aware of the current conditions of Toronto’s shelter system, I urge you to read more about it. Toronto is a city filled with lots of resources but there is always room for improvement.

Did you know our shelter system is running at 96% occupancy? Co-ed Adult shelters are running at 100%, and so are Family shelters. That data can be found in a report by the City of Toronto here.

You can read my article on the meeting, published on the Toronto Observer, here.

I’m super excited about my first cover on The Scarborough Observer magazine, and the fact that my article was chosen to be the feature!!

Shooting Brian Millado in the studio was a great experience. I had a vision walking into the shoot, and I’m so excited that vision landed on the cover of this month’s issue. Be sure to check out my feature article/spread in the magazine by clicking on the images below!
